Summary of Trevor-Wilmot Consolidated Board Meeting
May 19, 2015
The regular meeting of the Trevor-Wilmot Consolidated Board of Education was called to order by President Tom Steiner in the Trevor-Wilmot library at 7:03 P.M. Board members present were Bill Barhyte, Lynn Jaeger, Cole Marshall, Tom Steiner and Dean Troyer. Also in attendance were Dr. George Steffen, District Administrator, Michelle Brown, District Business Manager, Ted Gavlin, Principal, Tracy Donich, Curriculum Director, Rhonda Jahns, Recording Secretary, Linda Proeber and Deb Veenstra from CRB Insurance Consultants, Mary Fenske, Mike Fenske, Sue Pigney and Eric Themanson.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the Board approved the Consent Agenda which included the agenda for this meeting, the minutes from the Board Meeting and Executive Session on April 21, 2015, the minutes from the Board Meeting on May 5, 2015, the Financial Report and the Summary of Receipts, Wire Transfers and Check Register.
The Board approved payment of the May bills in the General Fund in the amount of $67,759.33, in the Special Education Fund in the amount of $16,648.09, in the Food Service Fund in the amount of $16,495.95, in the Agency Fund in the amount of $7,024.95 and in Cooperative Program Fund in the amount of $220.28 for a Grand Total of $108,148.60. Salaries and benefits for May totaled $407,292.72.
Dr. Steffen stated that he had nothing further to add to the written Administrator's Report.
During Board Member Comments and Communications, Dean Troyer expressed concern about areas in front of the school needing to be weeded and dead trees and shrubs removed. Cole Marshall expressed appreciation to students and art teachers Jim Arneson and Kitty Cisler for the Art Show which was held earlier this evening.
During Committee Reports, Tom Steiner summarized the Academic Achievement Committee Meeting held on May 8th and the Personnel Committee Meeting held on May 12th. Lynn Jaeger summarized the Finance Committee Meeting held on May 12th. Cole Marshall reported on the Technology Committee Meeting held on May 13th.
- The Board heard a report from Deb Veenstra from CRB Insurance Consultants. She recommended continuing with WEA Trust Health Insurance and continuing the self-insured Dental Insurance program with two changes. The Board approved these recommendations
- The Board heard a report from Linda Proeber of CRB Insurance Consultants. She recommended renewing District liability insurance with EMC. The Board approved this recommendation
- The Board approved a recommendation from the Personnel Committee to provide a stipend of $100 to teacher members of the Wellness Committee and a Fitbit to each member
- The Board approved a change in the support staff work day to require a 30 minute duty-free lunch
During Citizens' Comments, a teacher asked to be notified when the Board returned to Open Session. A parent asked about the status of Wilmot Elementary School. Dr. Steffen indicated that restoration work was continuing.
The Board adjourned to Executive (closed) Session at 8:28 P.M. to consider personnel matters and deliberate on the purchase of public properties.
The Board returned to Open Session at 10:27 P.M. and took no action regarding tiered stipends for qualified teachers.
