The Board, functioning within the framework of State Statutes, fulfills its responsibilities as the governing body of the District by its execution of the following duties:

  • Enact policy
  • Adopt and implement a strategic plan
  • Negotiate labor agreements and other major contracts
  • Provide for the planning, expansion, improvement, financing, construction, and maintenance of the physical plant and grounds
  • Prescribe the minimum standards needed for the efficient operation and improvement of the District
  • Monitor student achievement including the Adequate Yearly Progress data defining student achievement
  • Approve the budget, financial reports, audits, major expenditures, payment of obligations and policies whereby the administration may formulate procedures, regulations and other guides for the orderly accomplishment of business
  • Estimate and levy taxes
  • Adopt curriculum
  • Employ staff
  • Oversee the educational program evaluation process
  • Provide for the dissemination of information relating to the District
  • Determine the means and methods of instruction, the selection of text books and other teaching materials, and the use of teaching aids, class schedules hours of instruction, length of the school year, and terms and conditions of employment.
